New report into the effectiveness of probation supervision
Published in Latest News Written by Lauren HamillIn the latest of a series of reports into the effectiveness of Probation supervision in Jersey, Professor Raynor of Swansea University has looked into the relationship between skills used by individual Probation staff members in interviews with their clients and subsequent reconviction rates. The paper shows that there is a significant relationship between the skills shown by the supervisor and offending by the client. Click Here to download the report.
Presentation to Youth Panel
Published in Latest News Written by Lauren HamillLast week, Mike Cutland (Assistant Chief Probation Officer) and Andy Le Marrec (Assistant Communtiy Service Manager) gave a presentation to the Youth Panel on Community Service. The Youth Panel consists of lay people, who take it in turns to sit with the Magistrate in Youth Court and who help decide on sentencing. For a copy of the presentation, see our reports page.

Picture: Gigoulande Mill, St Peter. The recovery of this Mill is being undertaken by the CS team on behalf of the Lieutenant Governor's Office. Once restored the Mill will be gifted to the National Trust for Jersey.
Earlier this month, Chief Probation Officer Brian Heath travelled to Olso to present at a conference about the work of Jersey Probation and After-Care Service. He spoke about our small island and offered information on the pre-sentence work we do with offenders and how we target our resources to best meet the needs of our clients, the courts and the wider community. The presentation, entitled 'Pre-Sentence Work - The Jersey Experience' is available on the Reports page.
Jersey Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangements
Published in Latest News Written by Lauren HamillTo mark one year of sucessful multi agency working to manage offenders convicted of violent, sexual or dangerous crimes, Assistant Chief Probation Officer Mike Cutland has participated in a series of media interviews. The JMAPPA group, set up in 2011, includes representatives from the Police, the Probation Service and other agencies who come together to help reduce any risk these offenders may pose.

Three new officers sworn in

Many congratulations to Sarah, Elsa and Eleanor who were sworn in as officers of the Royal Court of Jersey last week. Sarah is now a full Probation Officer, while Eleanor and Elsa are senior social workers within the Family Court Advisory Service. We are very proud to have them as full-fledged officers of the court!
